Greetings!

Wrigley Bear

I sincerely hope you and yours had an incredible holiday season filled with lots of time together. I know my dog, Wrigley Bear, enjoyed the extra guests and treats for sure. I'm excited to debut my new logo, as seen in the above header and designed by Dan Bockhaut at Fiorelli Graphics in Libertyville, my hometown.

I also made time to create listings for my office on the all-importance Google Places as well as Yelp and Insider Pages. I'm incredibly grateful to anyone who takes the time to write quick review that might be helpful to other potential clients. Wishing you the very best in 2011!

Spotlight On: Collaborative

This article from the IL State Bar Association looks at this somewhat new and increasingly popular method to divorce. The article defines "collaborative divorce" as a means to minimize the conflict, pain and anguish of a traditional divorce through a unique collaborative process.

Having undergone the training myself, I see value in what basically involves a series of meetings to reach a settlement-outside of court. Once a settlement is reached on all issues, the attorneys prepare and submit a written agreement for the Court to finalize. Learn more about the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois

State's Attorney & Retailers

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez recently announced formation of a first-of-its-kind task force to investigate and prosecute the crime of organized retail theft and fencing, a growing consumer problem that drives up costs for everyone.

The Regional Organized Crime Task Force includes representatives from law enforcement and the retail industry from throughout the Cook County region. With formation of the task force, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office becomes the first prosecutor's office in the nation to join together with law enforcement and retailers to develop a unified and proactive plan to tackle this type of crime. According to published reports, Illinois loses an estimate $77 million in tax revenues each year as a result of organized retail theft and fencing.

Q: If a passenger in a car is drinking alcohol, but the driver is not, is the driver liable for charges if stopped by police?

A: Yes. It is illegal for anyone to have an open container of alcohol or to drink alcoholic beverages in a vehicle, and both driver and passengers may be issued a traffic citation. Passengers on chartered buses used for non-school purposes, or in motor homes, mini motor homes and limousines are exempt.
